Obituary
Betty Mae (Doll) Malesky passed peacefully at TideWell Hospice in Ellenton June 3, 2014. She was born February 19, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio to Carl and Nell Doll. She graduated from Jane Addams High School.
In 1944 she married Joe Malesky. They split their time between Cleveland and Avon Lake in Ohio. Several years were spent in retail and working in her husband's pharmacy. The late 1940's found her and Joe traveling to Florida in search of sun and fish, settling in Bradenton.
Betty became active in the Junior Women's Club, helping to create Happiness House. She was a founding member of Manatee Memorial's Hospital Auxiliary. Moving to Bay Colony in Palmetto she was active in the Palmetto Elementary PTA and served as it's president. As a member of the Palmetto Garden Club she enjoyed flower arranging and won many awards and served as the president as well.
She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi and the Pharmacy Wives Club. She served as a volunteer secretary at St. Mary's church. She attended State College of Florida and held a Florida Realtors License. For many years she has been a member of 1776 adult Girl Scout group supporting, scouting, and traveling with a fun bunch of ladies.
She has supported her daughter Karen's Science Education career by buying materials for her classrooms, attending and volunteering at various Science events and conferences. Her hobbies included painting, traveling, big band music, the beach, and playing cards.
Betty is predeceased by her husband, Joe and sister, Audrey Rowley. Survivors are her daughter, Karen of Palmetto; Niece, Christie Rowley; and nephews, Tom Rowley and Anthony Richards of Pinellas County. Also survived by special friends, Beth Ruyle and Craig Hullinger of Sarasota and Leigh Ann Masen of Seattle, Washington.
Visitation will be held at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, from 6 PM until the time of the Celebration of Betty's Life at 7 PM.
